Newsletters

The Louisiana Department of Health’s weekly internal newsletter was a key tool we used to keep all 6,000+ employees across the state informed, engaged, and connected.​ Each newsletter consisted of:

• Timely health updates and news stories

• Highlights from regional offices and program areas

• Employee success stories

• Important events, campaigns, and meetings

• Writing and design tips

• Human Resources updates

• Employee engagement opportunities

• Monthly, weekly, and daily health observances

• Media mentions and news headlines involving LDH

Each week, I built the newsletter from the ground up—gathering and editing submissions from across the agency, writing original stories, conducting research, collecting and captioning photos, creating custom graphics, designing the layout, and making sure HR updates, employee events, and media coverage are all accurately represented.

I’m proud to say I increased the newsletter’s average open rate from 27% to 76%—well above the industry average of 36%.
